Hipster Whale's first game, Crossy Road was planned to take a total of six weeks to develop, but after seeing its potential, the developers spent more than 12 weeks on it. Sum and Hall kept the whale as the mascot for later on. Sum was doodling as they were talking and began drawing a whale, which would later become the company's logo. The name came from discussing free-to-play games and the word " whale" came up in the conversation. The company has also created the games Shooty Skies, Pac-Man 256 (in collaboration with Bandai Namco Entertainment), and Disney Crossy Road (in collaboration with Disney Interactive Studios).Īfter meeting at GCAP (Game Center: Asia Pacific) 2013, Andy Sum and Matt Hall decided to make Hipster Whale. Once 30 are picked up, a bright yellow flash will appear, accompanied by a strange sound (much like what happens when 10 pieces are picked up).Hipster Whale is an Australian independent video game developer and publisher founded on 20 November 2014 by Andy Sum and Matt Hall, shortly before making the game Crossy Road. While it is on the screen, it begins floating without direction around the screen and producing swirly sounds, as if to distract the player or obscure the mascot. After picking up 20, a ghost will appear on the screen and will stay there until the player gets killed. Collecting more than ten of the flowers will cause the screen to flash a different colour after picking each one up and will cause a strange noise. ![]() When playing as Forget-Me-Not, pink flowers (which are fairly rare, though not as rare as coins), like those in the original Forget-Me-Not game, can be found on the map.
